 I Blog, Therefore I Am

Is living your life online any less valid than living it in the "real world?"

We all know people who "live" online.  Maybe you're one of them.

I have a close "real life" friend who lives her life online.  The thing is, her real life is amazing!  She has it all.  So why would she spend most of her waking hours hammering away on her keyboard?  If I were to call her up right now and ask her how she was and what's new, she'd probably be really unclear if I were asking about her real-life family or her pretend "Second Life" world.  The lines are blurred.  How did this happen?  Who knows...

Everybody knows people who have met online and fallen in love without ever having met the person they profess love for.  If this has never happened to you, it is incomprehensible.  It defies explanation.

Is it real?  Are we reaching the stage in our evolution where we'll soon have to distinguish our friends:  RP - real people, or VP - virtual people (people we've never met but in whose lives we've become entangled by virtue of the internet).

I have seen both sides and I still don't know.  Living online FEELS valid to those who experience it, but is it?

I have a few online friends that I have had for ages and ages. If we were to meet in person it would be like we have known each other all our life. It's very real. But it's not another life for me, it's all one and the same. Good luck figuring it out for yourself, everyone is different.

Interesting Post. I think you need both ... virtual and real friends. I only have virtual friends and feel the void in my life. Just yesterday I got into a discussion in the comment section on Hollis' blog in regard to her post "Friends Without Faces".

Welcome to thoughts. I'm glad you are here.

Peace.

Love them, in some regard yes...for their creative style and funny sense of humour...NOT the love of leaving the kids and hubby for..HELL NO!!!! I will never do that, for any man......

Thank you for all your blogs. I think I am caught up on all of them..
