When you are older and famous for your uncanny writing talent, when you look back upon this black period in your life, be glad that you didn't do anything irredeemably stupid, although the thought did cross your mind, and remember to send the BootLady an autographed copy of your first book. She believes in you.

Unhappily Married need advice please on 2008-05-22 23:19:27 |

It's pretty obvious to me that you are attempting to justify ending your marriage. It apparently makes you feel better to twist it around and make it sound like it's in her best interest. It IS in her best interest, but not in the way that you are fooling yourself into thinking. It has nothing whatsoever to do with her wanting to go back to school, and everything to do with you discovering that you don't want to be married. These three people who have commented ahead of me are very wise and you should seriously give some consideration to what they've said. If you don't have the stones to own up to your commitment, and obviously you don't, then cut her loose and let her heal and go play with your friends.

Devil's Advocate Time: It seems like the only one who wants a relationship between FOTY and his kids is you. What would happen if you just lived your life with your babies and let him figure it out for himself? YOU are the only one putting in any effort to make this happen. If he isn't concerned about losing touch with his family, then why should it fall to you to make up for his shortcomings? How is it your burden to make sure FOTY's new life fits in with theirs?
I admire your strength, Easy, I truly do, but I think it's wasted on FOTY. (Please don't stone me! I just thought that maybe an alternate viewpoint might give you more options)

My name is BootLady and I'm a latte junkie too. I'll spend $4.00 on a latte at least once a day - money I could have used to buy 3 or 4 regular (ACK!) coffees or oh, I dunno, put toward my children's education. Oops - I wasn't factoring in the gas it takes to drive to the latte shop (it's about 20 minutes from my house!) Okay, this is serious...but I don't need rehab...I'm fine! Seriously!

When I met His Lordship, I had "been around the block" enough to know what I DIDN'T want in a man. He was none of those things, so although he wasn't exactly what I THOUGHT I wanted, I gave it a shot. It's been 25 years so far, and I can't imagine being with anyone else. He is my heart and soul, and I would have missed him if I'd been looking at the wrong list.

Since everybody knows that women are smarter than men, it's up to us to achieve equality/superiority, while at the same time, bamboozling our menfolk into believing that they're still in charge of things :P
Pounce not! I'm kidding!! (sorta)
Sincerely, though, I see nothing wrong with chivalry. In fact, I've been known to be a tad miffed when a man lets a door go in my face. Some acts of up-bringing or just plain manners should be held to in the name of tradition. I've raised my son to open doors and treat women with respect. It's just nice and if it's not doing anyone any harm (quite the contrary) then why not keep it going? Sure, I can open the damn door for myself, but I enjoy having it held for me. It speaks volumes about a man who does this.

Abortion on 2008-05-03 09:49:29 |
|
Although there is no way to accurately predict the future, I can certainly see that, in some cases, bringing an unwanted child into the world could be tragic for both the mother and the child. Say, for example, if the mother has been raped or if she is a serious drug-user.
I could never condone abortion as a method of birth-control, though. I know it's done all too often, but it's very wrong. If you are going to take responsibility for your body, then take it...and use birth control if you're not ready to become a parent.

So, just to blob out some random observations here...I guess the biggie is the notion that you think you need to decide whether or not to be anti-relationship. To that I say "meh!" (such a great word, eh?) It's not something that requires conscious thought. You are feeling a wee bit um...okay, let's go with "crappy" about yourself, but here's the thing: although your picture is sort of sideways, you're not actually a mutant. (Remember I've seen the one on your other spew-spot) It's pretty obvious that Mr. Right and/or Mr. Close-enough has not yet made his presence known to you. Mr. Dickhead and Mr. I-think-I'll-Break-Your-Heart-Now both apparently have. Those two losers need to be chalked up as either learning experiences (corny version) or never afuckingains! I blame them for your current state.
As for now's decisions carving your future in stone..meh! (again!) A "now" decision can be remade by a 5-minutes-from-now decision. Or undone entirely. Call it a do-over.
Coming from an ole broad who's been around the block, I don't think you need to put pressure on yourself to make any massive life-altering decisions just because you think you are whatever age you are and that someone told you to figure it all out NOW! That's a bogus notion. I've never had a problem riding the wave, so to speak, and I think if you just let life unfold as it will, without any preconceived expectations, you'd be less likely to be hard on yourself for schitt that happens...which reminds me of a cool quote I heard recently..."Shit happens - wipe your butt and move on"
You have an off-the-scale talent for putting words together, and obviously a few random brain cells going on. I wish I could make you understand how cool you are, and make you stop being so critical of yourself. I have no doubt that eventually you'll meet someone who is worthy. I guess that's pretty much my point - THEY need to be worthy! YOU already are!
