Happy Turkey Day to all! We were invited last minute to the home of a lady I know from church (her granddaughter is my daughter's best friend.) For a while there it felt like we were forgotten by everyone. My brother's in Iraq, (and he lives hundreds of miles away anyway, so we'd never go there), my younger sister's hubby is also deployed but she's hosting my older sister for the holiday and said there wasn't room for the kids and I at her house (isn't that what family gatherings are all about? Who cares if we would have had to sleep on the floor!) and my parents live 2 days' worth of driving away. There's no way I'd spend 4 of the 5 days we have off on the road to spend 1 day with them. We'll see them this summer. And I am not about to go to the in-laws!!! I like my in-laws just fine, but they while they do gather the entire family (with 9 kids and 20+ grandkids, you have to rent a community center!!), they never celebrate holidays on the actual day, and then they serve weird things--weird for a Thanksgiving dinner, in my opinion (anyone for a bowl of chili?!) I look forward to turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, cranberry--the works! And with our weather turning horrid, I'm glad I don't have to drive anywhere. Well, I have dessert to make for tomorrow..better run!
