Life wasn't meant to be easy...
Life is an interesting thing. When you are young, you are challenged by society to think about where you want to be in the future, and make a life plan. It's only when you've left school and entered what people term "The real world" that you discover that, despite your best lain plans, life has a tendency to take you in other directions.
For instance, After attending school for 13 long years, I decided to study Psychology. The plan was to study for 4 years, and have my bachelor degree with honours, and then find out what the world had to offer me. The only thing that my degree taught me was that an awful lot of people that I thought were quirky, were in fact mentally ill. This was a somewhat sobering thought, so I decided not to continue with my original plan. The new plan ended up being one year of my degree, and a casual job at a pizza shop. And, by casual, I mean that I was cheap labour, and managed to have a day off every now and again... not exactly the direction I had hoped and dreamed about since childhood.
Which got me thinking, at what point do we give up the dreams of our childhood and settle for that boring office job that we hate? Or a relationship that we know isn't good for us? Is there a point at which we each become hopeless and turn into bitter, angry and selfish husks? For some of us, the only dream we have is of 5 o'clock coming round, or of losing a few extra kilos. Surely we can do better than that?
So, with these in mind, I have made the decision not to settle for ordinary this year. And, I made my first move toward my new life... I quit my job. I don't intend on bludging off the tax-payer though... I am actively looking for a job that I love. Money is just money. Deep down, we each know that happiness cannot be bought. Unfortunately, many of us, myself included, forget this from time to time.
I'm going to live in the now,... and not let an opportunity pass me by.
And, to make sure I actually do this, I am going to catalogue my experiences here. So feel free to check up on how I'm going....
If you always do what you've always done... you'll always get what you've always got.
