Sen. John McCai<wbr></wbr>n visit<wbr></wbr>ed Liber<wbr></wbr>ty Towns<wbr></wbr>hip for a Thurs<wbr></wbr>day fundr<wbr></wbr>aiser<wbr></wbr>, but a fello<wbr></wbr>w Repub<wbr></wbr>lican<wbr></wbr> will not be in atten<wbr></wbr>dance<wbr></wbr>.
Butle<wbr></wbr>r Count<wbr></wbr>y Sheri<wbr></wbr>ff Richa<wbr></wbr>rd Jones<wbr></wbr> took out a half-<wbr></wbr>page newsp<wbr></wbr>aper ad blast<wbr></wbr>ing the presi<wbr></wbr>denti<wbr></wbr>al candi<wbr></wbr>date’<wbr></wbr>s stanc<wbr></wbr>e on illeg<wbr></wbr>al immig<wbr></wbr>ratio<wbr></wbr>n, and simil<wbr></wbr>ar ads are plann<wbr></wbr>ed for other<wbr></wbr> Ohio and New York newsp<wbr></wbr>apers<wbr></wbr>.
“Befo<wbr></wbr>re I'm a Repub<wbr></wbr>lican<wbr></wbr>, I'm an Ameri<wbr></wbr>can, and this is an Ameri<wbr></wbr>can issue<wbr></wbr>, and I can say what I think<wbr></wbr>,” Jones<wbr></wbr> said.
In the ad, the sheri<wbr></wbr>ff asks McCai<wbr></wbr>n why voter<wbr></wbr>s hadn’<wbr></wbr>t heard<wbr></wbr> his polic<wbr></wbr>y on illeg<wbr></wbr>al immig<wbr></wbr>ratio<wbr></wbr>n, an issue<wbr></wbr> about<wbr></wbr> which<wbr></wbr> Jones<wbr></wbr> is parti<wbr></wbr>cular<wbr></wbr>ly
outsp<wbr></wbr>oken.
“Are you avoid<wbr></wbr>ing this Ameri<wbr></wbr>can issue<wbr></wbr>?” the ad asks.<wbr></wbr>
“We are all ears.
”
Jones<wbr></wbr>, who wants<wbr></wbr> the borde<wbr></wbr>r seale<wbr></wbr>d and illeg<wbr></wbr>al immig<wbr></wbr>rants<wbr></wbr> depor<wbr></wbr>ted, said he feels<wbr></wbr> McCai<wbr></wbr>n has sold out the Repub<wbr></wbr>lican<wbr></wbr> Party<wbr></wbr> and the U.S. by remai<wbr></wbr>ning silen<wbr></wbr>t.
“Beli<wbr></wbr>eve me, he won'<wbr></wbr>t discu<wbr></wbr>ss this issue<wbr></wbr> at all in the next 90 days,<wbr></wbr>” Jones<wbr></wbr> said.<wbr></wbr>
“He doesn<wbr></wbr>'t want to talk about<wbr></wbr> it at all, (<wbr></wbr>and) I'm going<wbr></wbr> to talk about<wbr></wbr> it every<wbr></wbr>where<wbr></wbr> in Ohio.
”
A campa<wbr></wbr>ign repre<wbr></wbr>senta<wbr></wbr>tive said Thurs<wbr></wbr>day that McCai<wbr></wbr>n would<wbr></wbr> secur<wbr></wbr>e the borde<wbr></wbr>r as presi<wbr></wbr>dent,<wbr></wbr> but the Arizo<wbr></wbr>na Repub<wbr></wbr>lican<wbr></wbr> belie<wbr></wbr>ves there<wbr></wbr> shoul<wbr></wbr>d be a compr<wbr></wbr>ehens<wbr></wbr>ive solut<wbr></wbr>ion for illeg<wbr></wbr>al immig<wbr></wbr>ratio<wbr></wbr>n.
Jones<wbr></wbr> said he did not know wheth<wbr></wbr>er McCai<wbr></wbr>n would<wbr></wbr> discu<wbr></wbr>ss the ad durin<wbr></wbr>g his Tri-<wbr></wbr>state<wbr></wbr> fundr<wbr></wbr>aiser<wbr></wbr>, but he added<wbr></wbr> that he would<wbr></wbr> not be there<wbr></wbr> to find out.
“I'm not payin<wbr></wbr>g $<wbr></wbr>5,<wbr></wbr>000 to have my pictu<wbr></wbr>re with McCai<wbr></wbr>n,” Jones<wbr></wbr> said.<wbr></wbr> “I'm going<wbr></wbr> to stay home and watch<wbr></wbr> paint<wbr></wbr> dry.

Howev<wbr></wbr>er, Jones<wbr></wbr> said he hadn’<wbr></wbr>t ruled<wbr></wbr> out votin<wbr></wbr>g for McCai<wbr></wbr>n.
