| Santa just visited and I can't sleep!

Santa just visited BamaMoms home. All the kids are asleep but mom is not. Once again I can't sleep. And this year I just don't have any Christmas spirit. I cooked all day Christmas eve (although I swore I was not!) I made a cake, cupcakes, muffins and other Christmas treats. The sad thing is I can't even have them. ANy way in a few hours I will be cooking again. This year I just can't seem to get excited about Christmas. I guess part of ot is that only one child still believes in Santa bringing the gifts .So instead of Santa's "visit"taking 10-15 min with mom and dads help to deliver the gifts,it took a whole 5 min and dad sleep through it. The older kids gifts where already under the tree. It used to be only 3-4 years ago that our tree was bare underneath until Christmas morn. Sometimes there were school gifts or gifts for other relatives but they were gone by Christmas Eve,but this year all gifts except the ones for the 8 year old from"santa' were under the tree by 6 p.m last night. Just doesn't seem the same. In fact my 16 went to bed early and would not even get up to get an early present. He is not getting what he wanted(a gun for deer hunting or a PS3) so he is not even interested in any other gifts ,even if we could afford it he is not doing well in school and it would not be fair to the other children . The other children are getting some of the smaller things on their list but none of the big ticket stuff. We did the best we could but I know that they will be somewhat disappointed but I can't help that. I will be to because I know that since they won't be happy about their gifts I will get unhappy about their reaction but I am going to try to keep my thoughts to myself this year(or at least confine them to this blog)
My kids ahve already got let down once by their granny and papa. We went to seemthem Sunday ,they live over an hour away. They have not seen them in over a year. yeah we dropped in unannounced but it was 2 days before Christmas. The kids were glad to see their Grandparents . There were a few comments made that led the kids to believe that the other grandkids(my husbands brothersand family) would be there today. although no gifts were under their tree my youngest asked on the way home why didn't Granny and Papa have them a gift this year?I told her that Granny and Papa don't have much money and that we hadn't gotten them anything either. She said but I think they got the rest of the kids something, why not us? I told her that they didn't get anyone anything this year they just had a tree up. She said why? I told her again that there was no money and she said why couldn't they not smoke and use that money? Out of the mouth of babes. They do smoke and just 2 less packs a week would allow them to give each child a $5 gift card-it is not like Christmas is a surprise and they #of grandkids have been the same for the last 8 years. They had all year. My kids are not picky and a $5 gift to McDonalds would have made their day because they don't get fast food often. I didn't know what to tell her-I told her I just don't know why.Don't misunderstand my daughter she is not stingy or greedy she just wondered why the other kids might get something and they didn't , they (the grandparents)do usually get them (the grandkids)something small. She just wondered if she had done something wrong. My mother in law knows my blog name and she might read this and get her feelings hurt but -? So did my daughter, and I hate to be hateful but if I find out she did get the others something (only one which is a blood grandchild) just because they were coming to her house for dinner than she may not see these grandkids for quite awhile.
Anyway enough bi--h and groaning .It is Christmas Morning! The kids won't be up for a couple more hours but I guess I will bake those choc.chip muffins that they wanted. Merry Christmas and Happy hOlidays to every one!

Your daughter is very bright and also unwise to the proper politeness of this world which often represses true feelings. She says it like it is and apparently you are too :) The heck with it ...its the web and you are free to write your thoughts here. If the mother in law reads it, maybe she will see that Christmas is all about the kids and decide next year to quit smoking atleast long enough to buy a gift for each of her grandkids.
