I have heard an urban legend (maybe it should be called a horror story) about the boyfriend sweater.  You meet a guy, things seem to be going along really well, so you decide its time to knit him a sweater.  Remember, unless you are not employed outside the home, have full time housekeeping and childcare help, and extremely strong wrists, knitting a sweater takes a little bit of time.

The story goes that as soon as you start knitting the sweater the problems begin.  By the time it is finished, so is the relationship.  I have tried to thwart this evil.  My boyfriend and I have been dating since last January.  I started the sweater very early on and planned to give it to him for his birthday in April.  According to the legend, this would have been the end of our time together.  But I am smarter than the forces at work against me, and I also bore easily.  Needless to say, the sweater was no where near completion in April.

It is now November.  I am almost finished with all of the other knitted Christmas gifts I decided to make this year.  I decided to take the sweater back up and finish it for Christmas.  We are almost a year into this thing and its going pretty well.  Is it possible the legend will destroy our relationship after all of this time?  But even more pressing, is it possible I will actually finish the sweater by Christmas?  Only time will tell...
