Good Afternoon!
I apologize for the long delay. It's been a very busy few weeks. First, Jon is home from Boot Camp. I will add pictures when I get them uploaded.
His "Turning Blue" ceremony was very inspiring. And very early....we had to be out at Ft. Benning about 8:00, which was 7:00a.m. Central Time, and I am NOT a morning person. Anyway, first the families were directed to a large classroom and one of the drill Sargent's got up and recounted what all our soldiers went through in Boot Camp. He thanked us all for supporting our soldiers and we were shown a video montage of their company and the activities and training that they received.
After the speech, we all went out to the field (don't wear sandals....the gravel is a frigging nightmare!!) where we were treated to another speech and THEN our soldiers marched on to the field! It was just wonderful to see them all look so wonderful! Remember, up until that moment, I haven't seen him since the Family Day in July! and his Dad hasn't seen him since April!! We were one of the lucky ones, Jon was standing in the front row.
After they stopped and another speech, we were allowed on the field where we attached the blue Infantry cord to his uniform. Then, we returned to our seats, another speech and then he was released on pass for the day.
We just hung out at the hotel, swam a little bit, but we were exhausted from the 17 hour drive and knew we would have another early day on Friday, so we didn't do anything.
THEN, Friday arrives....bright and early....the ceremony was held at the National Infantry Museum.

They advised us to show up TWO hours early in order to park and get a good seat, well, that would put us arriving at 6:00!! which is 5:00 a.m. Texas time!! So, needless to say, we just had bad seats!!
I cannot say enough how awe-inspiring the graduation ceremony was....they had some wonderful speeches, some wonderful displays, and the location was beautiful.....but it was HOT....August in Georgia is NOT fun...even at 8:00a.m.!! Again, I hope to have pictures soon.
Then, the long 17 hour drive home.....ugh....
ALSO, our house sold, so now we are frantically looking for a new place to live! Thankfully, Jon is home, and we can enlist his assistance with moving!
Now that Jon is out of Boot Camp, and once he is established in Germany with his own computer, I will use this space for him to post his own thoughts, as well as letting me post my perspective. I have a feeling he won't be sending me letters, but I'm still going to post. I have to admit, I'd gotten rather addicted to all my new friends here on thoughts!!
