 GROUNDHOG DAY…..IN IRAQ
This is how my "Ground Hog Days" in Iraq go:
0530 Alarm rudely disrupts dream………I was totally about to win lottery      0535  Evil snooze alarm disrupts sleep
0540  Ditto

0545  Up....reluctantly….dressed in Air Force glow-stick PT clothes
      0550  Walk mile to bathroom....quickly....
0555  Begin beautification process....sometimes takes a while0645  At work for shift change brief…blah…blah…blah….absorbing nothing before coffee
0700  Remind everyone that today will be smooth as long as everything is done my way………and no one talks to me before coffee????  Run aeromedical evacuation mission(s) either on flight line lifting patient's 400lb luggage with plane engines messing up perfect hair
OR
Take my turn to stay in office completing mission reports while all 4 phones are ringing, tower radio is blaring, and needy people are asking non-mission related questions; continue to mumble mantra, "Do no harm....do no harm....do no harm........"
1130  Lunch involving some type of chicken-ish product
1300 Read some of 15 million silly e-mails from night-shift guy; forward the 1 funny one (Everyone needs a hobby but this may be a full-time job for night-shift guy.)
1330  More work/more reports/answer phone calls from units looking for patient luggage last seen "somewhere in Iraq....or Kuwait....or was it Africa?"
1335  Throw needy people out of office

1400  Continue constant battle against dust bunnies……they are winning
1500  Throw needy people out of office.......again……while resisting urge to slit throat and wishing "flogging" was still socially acceptable
1800 Dinner in office.....more meat-like products; wait for someone else to try it first and watch facial expressions
1845 Shift change meeting......blah....blah...blah...brain checked out at 1830
1930  In gym working off frustrations of not being able to kill needy people because running out of places to hide bodies
2030  Walk mile in flip flops to "good" showers - ghetto showers are closer but not worth mental anguish of 3rd world country contractor work      2100  In bed with good book
2115  Book not that good, already dozing off

2145  Pretending to read through closed eyelids

2150  Make mental note to find more places to hide bodies tomorrow
2200  Dreaming away in la-la land (need lots of beauty sleep)

The next day it starts all over again.  I live a very exciting life here.....can I come home now?
