The Power of Enjoyment

Yeshua (Christ) used the cultural entertainment medium of the time to give pictures that represented truth. By speaking in stories, he brought a crowd that wanted to enjoy their time by listening. Those who sought the truth also sought after the meaning behind the pictures.

C.S. Lewis did the same thing to instill the value of having a loving king and experiencing his plan to bless us. Lewis also used the cultural entertainment medium of his time: books, which were later, rightfully, turned into cartoons and movies.

This model of teaching is one that brings strides of spiritual success among the “fertile soil” of a hurting world.

Which pictures do we teach today, and which cultural entertainment mediums will we be enabled to do so through? That’s my question of direction.

Understanding of the kingdom realm is one which would change any heart if it were looked at for it’s true value. People are always blinded by their own lazy choice to be entertained. Yeshua knew this, and he’s put his work through many vessels knowing this throughout the ages.

If, through entertainment, pictures of truth were presented, the largest heart-barrier would be crossed. Rarely are people willing to be confronted with words like “Christian, God, Jesus, Heaven, Faith, Salvation” and so on. What people experience, not what they hear, is what will make an impact.

If a sermon can be preached in a strong enough way that people will take an actual experience out of it, there’s nothing wrong with blunt words, but otherwise, for the percentage of people who won’t even enter a church or don’t find one with a speaker worth “experiencing”, there needs to be an alternative.

Media is an experience. If people enjoy the experience, they accept the story and the pictures within the experience. Doing so leads mankind to consider the personal connections in life.

So again, the question: What are we trying to teach, and what are we using to teach it? It has to be entertaining. It’s not enjoyable if it’s not excellent.

Let’s get to work. This is a model of changing hearts that’s been used by the originator of ministry.

List of some modern-day entertainment mediums (in 2007):
-Film industry
-Theatre
-Music industry
-TV programs
-Video Game industry
-Internet Videos (such as “YouTube”)
-Internet Groups (such as “MySpace”)
-Books and Magazines
