Would We Do the Same?
By: Alyson Lanning
I was on my way to Kidron, Ohio when we entered a town called Loudenville. I saw at least 1,000 kids and about 500 adults standing with small flags at the side of the road. My first thought was, "Oh, no. We're in the middle of a parade." Then I thought about how it was Friday, I was skipping school to take photos in Amish communties, and I even double-checked my phone to see if it was some national holiday, it wasn't.
"Why were all these people out on the sidewalk with flags on a Friday, Alyson! Tell me before I put these newspaper down!!!"
Fine, ok, ok.
Damon Winkleman, Army Specialist died in Afganistan in a freak accident. An army vehicle rolled over and killed him as he was on his way to injured soldiers.
Would we do the same? That's the question that I give you now.
Would we in Chesterville, Mount Gilead, Morrow County, all over Ohio. From the smallest towns to all of America, I ask of you, would you do this? Would you stand out front of your school on a perfectly fine Friday and hold a flag for 2 hours while a crazy tourist kid snapped photos of a hearse and a bunch of kids? Would you? Think about it please.
