the true dumbing down of society
i shall return to the series about communication with your kids anon, but i have other things on my mind at the moment. twice tonight i have had a friend humiliated on TV. my friend has been guilty of specifically one crime. He loves. first Sarah Silverman sang Amazing Grace pretending that her bodily orifices were harmonizing. then some strange professor and Bill Maher had a happy go lucky conversation about how people of faith were deluded and stupid. their buzzwords were the "talking snake" in Genesis. that is as stupid as calling the fruit adam and eve ate "an apple." the serpent didn't become a snake until it was cursed, and at that point it could no longer talk. oh. and until it became a snake, it had legs. there is no creature like it today.

it is the measure of true dumbing down of a society when the sign of being intellectual is making light of "religion." "har har. isn't that bible a dumb book? hee hee." "my father-in-law believes in Heaven. what an idiot. ha ha." is that truly as far as humor goes now? sarah had her rump singing bass. gosh. funny. these brainless quacks giving humor a dead name don't study their craft. lenny bruce is the only reason any of the "thinking" comedians have jobs, and he stopped short of complete writing off of spirituality. lenny's problem wasn't with a "make-believe" Jesus like today's brood. lenny asked why Jesus' believers couldn't act like Him. i see THAT as a legitimate question. lenny left the possibility open that there is a Heaven, but questioned our thoughts about location, since the earth revolves.

my response to bill maher and his professor friend is that "religion" hasn't dumbed us down. many universities were formed by "religious" folk. millions upon billions of people have believed in God. how arrogant can you possibly be to sweep them with a gesture and comment that they are all stupid? that's it? that's the basis of your argument? they're all dumb? wow. um ... it has always been my understanding that my calling you stupid doesn't make me smart. BEING smart makes me smart. so you calling me stupid doesn't make me stupid. and it doesn't make you intellectual. your description of eden with its talking snake is erroneous. doesn't make you stupid. but another thing lenny did that you should perhaps emulate is that he learned his topic. you are misquoting Scripture ... which is sad when your misquote is the basis of your argument. bill maher is billed as an intellectual comedian. he does justice to neither word.

Good argument Buck. There have been some heated comments in surveys, pertaining to the same thing.

That Holy Book...has been abused.
Causing many to not be able to believe in God.
It is PHILOSOPHY!
All holy books are philosophy.
Designed and destined to make us think about God.
God is not a magic genie in the sky.
He sticks to natural scientific method.
We all forgot what a parable means.
A story to teach spiritual truth.
Just my opinion...you know how I live to give it out.
Love ya John.
