i grew up during the cold war. kids were taught to get under their desks in case of attack. because we all know that the finest bomb shelters were being constructed with old desk-wood. our desks would keep us safe! an old girlfriend got her doctorate writing about kids growing up under the threat of nuclear annihilation. we had black and white, sketchy pictures coming from TV of the russians saying they would bury us. meanies. there were race riots of ex-slaves warring against old slave owners, so i figured they HAD to be several hundred years old. then, President Kennedy was shot. and THEN we had this horrible thing called the Viet Nam war. it was definitely an "us" vs. "them" situation. i am talking about here in America. we were being lied to and we knew it and they knew we knew it. but we were ungrateful, poor Americans if we disliked the lying.
but now look at it. what has changed? i find myself praying for the soldiers and their families and the innocents being maimed and killed in Iraq, but instantly distrusting any politician who promotes the war. currently that list includes people in office, but not people running for office, since they will be inheriting something their votes "against" were ignored to create. "how would you end this war that someone else started?" = "how would you mop up puke?" no pretty answers, folks. i am less than an ant, but i have the ability to pray, and i do. but i do not believe that i am any less American to be wishing this problem was ended.
i have received, to date, approximately seven million videos with Jesus wrapped in the flag. if these are true visions, why do you suppose He stands with our guns and bombs more than the guns and bombs of iraqis? and if you say "because we are Christian" i get to hit your head with a log. number one, where does God call us Christians? number two, they will judge us by our fruit. where is our fruit? Christians have the same problems and the same failure rates as regular folks. so we expect God to honor what? the label we check when we fill out surveys? "i told the survey people i was Christian, so that's what i am." yeah? and what part of your life does it affect? this must be something other people can see without you even opening your mouth. just from whom you are, not from what you say, what part of your life is Christian? even i am a little hesitant to answer that, and i made it up.
i would love for America to be a theocracy. but i think believers would have to show a little eveidence that faith is a better choice before our fellow citizens would join us in that. the person who has kept us at war longer than world war 2 is supposedly a believer. that is no guarantee he will be a prophet. the seperation of church and state is to protect the church, not the state. "be not deceived. bad company corrupts good morals." the church has been having scandal after scandal since presidents began asserting their denomination approach to the King. i am an American by geography. but if America denounces Jesus Christ, i belong to my faith, and i will renounce those who renounce the Lord.
if we are fighting over there so we don't have to endure war over here, why can't we get on the plane in less time than it takes to run a marathon? because of this war, does anyone feel safer? did you know that there are diseases that hospital staff have plans for because they know most of them will die, too, so they have a small operating group that gets to be protected. i think if we had given them a billion a day, we might have actually protected some people. we cannot protect against 9/11 type activity if we have had our service people wiped out by a civil war. we need to get over our corporate guilt for being upset by our "leader's" choices, and do what we need to to represent the Lord. have you heard ONE person say, "praise God for this war. without it, i couldn't worship and obey Him"? i rest my case. |

This world is so busy ignoring true fruit of God's Love, no wonder there is war raging in so many countries.
If only...we could all get back to the basics of Love.
