enter His gates with thanksgiving,
the kingly psalmist said.
i have done so for forty years
in car and work and bed.
my object was to thank "enough"
to make it through the gate.
then praise His Holy Name enough
His courts would share that fate.
ever write a thank-you late
so your gift is bought this year?
not grateful but pragmatic,
my praise was that sincere.
for decades God has met with me
BEFORE my need is clear.
i scratch my head and wonder why
not knowing what looms near.
i have stood in a fountain of wealth.
i have felt the tropic rains.
i have lost my lights and heat,
have collapsed under the strain.
if you made it through His gates,
would you not be thankful?
once inside His house,
would you hold back His praise?
i was taught you did these things
to get inside His house,
but it may be getting in
gets gratitude aroused.
i am grateful for you. |
