advice
advice to new hospital chaplain class
between brokenness and wholeness, there's a Verb known as God.
between animosity and peace,
there's a Person named Love.
He allows hearts to be healed
and melted together
in the searing pain of our broken hearts.
free-world believers
aren't physically martyred very often.
we live long enough to be crushed.
hearts that heal are oft broken.
our Father and re-creator of our hearts
can only show the wounded and broken that He heals
through the example He sets with us.
so we are broken ... for love
and then restored.
it is called "fellowshipping with Him
in His suffering."
we show love like our Elder Brother did.
we do not seek out pain.
but we do not run in fear, either.
between limping, defeated believers
and the joy that empowers
is someone who stands
and cries
for us in the gap.
God's will is NOT accomplished when, in fear,
we say no instead of "show me how."
only the softest hearts are brave enough
to love and laugh and weep for others.
people need empathy as much as encouragement.
children need freedom far more than limits.
the greatest healing comes through listening,
not talk.
do not respond until you have heard with your heart.
ears are not to be trusted.
when their heart is broken,
let yours be also.
when their heart is ecstatic,
celebrate with them.
when they are quiet,
enjoy the beauty of silence with them.
have no goals but to share God's love and peace
in dignity and gentleness.
neither God nor love is rude.
... and if you learn how to do all this,
come teach me.
