**As reported by Songbird in the Berrynarbor News Letter June 2006**
Today, we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend,
Common Sense, who has been with us for many years.
No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long
ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
Common Sense will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons
as knowing:
a.. when to come in out of the rain
b.. why the early bird gets the worm
c.. life isn't fair and maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies, (don't spend more
than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children, are
in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned, but,
overbearing regulations were set in place.
Reports of:
a.. a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a
classmate;
b.. teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch;
c.. a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened
his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job
they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.
It declined even further when schools were required to get parental
consent to administer Panadol, sun lotion, or a sticky plaster to a student;
but, could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to
have an abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live when:
a.. the Ten Commandments became contraband
b.. churches became businesses
c.. criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a
burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to
realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her
lap and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death by his Parents; Truth and Trust; his
wife, Discretion; his Daughter, Responsibility; and his Son, Reason.
He is survived by three stepbrothers
a.. I Know My Rights
b.. Someone Else is to Blame
c.. I am a Victim.
Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

That is very, very good. Sadly, you're absolutely right.
Thanks so much for sharing...I loved it.

APPLAUD, APPLAUD, APPLAUD!!!! This has hit it right on. You need to get this one published somewhere. Loved reading this in the form in which you wrote, this needs to be hung in the schools, courts, and any other public place that I can't think of right off hand. Super work Alice.
Naomi, what are you talking about in your second post?

Thank you, naomidarlene!.....it was one of those things people forward on to you....I thought it rang sooooo true and liked the style it was written in, so I kept it!
bookgirl, I wish I could take the credit for it, but, as stated in the 1st line, it has already been published by someone else! Yes, it IS very accurate and fitting of today's society, isn't it? Thank you for your comments! :)

I remember Common Sense. I went to school with him. He did allow the teachers to "hold us back", the principle to hand out punishment, & parents to "set us straight" in public. I saw him getting older & sicker as my kids were growing & die as my grandkids began school. I will indeed miss common sense.

'Gimpbuster', Marriedwidow', and ALL OTHERS: Thank you for your comments! They are much appreciated!
If we think about the state our society is in, long enough, one can fast become very depressed!
I don't have all the answers, but, I know one who does; HIS NAME IS JESUS!
As long as we accept our responsibilites and are accountable for our actions, if we put our trust in Jesus and allow His light to shine through us, WE HAVE HOPE!! :)

What about alah? What about Buddah? what about the goddess? what about god? what about the countless other gods who promote peace?
Gods don't count in this argument.
We will have hope when people start thinking for themselves and stop allowing others to think for them.
The news tends to make us feel depressed...so many stupid and sad stories.... That's because good things are not entertaining, society now days isn't as bad as everyone thinks it is, simply no one bothers to go look for the happy things...like the kids who raise money for poor people by selling happy face print offs for a buck, and they actually make a few hundred dollars.
But enough about the comments...the original post was pretty good...people are stupid sometimes, and it's sad that they ruin it for everyone around them...But that is a fact of life, and we can only learn from their stupidity, and not repeat it...at least I hope.

Deb: That's really good!.....The truth of it is sad, though, isn't it? Yes, prayer CAN change things!

Tiffanae: Thank you for your comment! No, I did not write this article, although, I wish I could take credit for it! :)
heizo: Thank you for your comments! I agree with much of what you said, however, as a Christian, I believe in the words written in the Bible. (only 2 of such examples):
".....there is one God; and there is none other but he...." (Mark 12:32)
"Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble." (James 2:19)
Acts chapter 9 tells of the conversion of Saul (later known as Paul) from a life of one who persecuted Christians and was responsible for many being imprisoned and put to death, to a life of self denial and sharing of God's heart and love with others.
It is my belief that if everyone were to truly have a personal life changing encounter with Jesus (as spoken of in the Book of Acts), then, it WOULD make a difference in people's thoughts, behavior, and actions.
I thank God for the difference He has made in my life!
