 Male Emancipation
Emancipation of women. Of course, we all know that women fought for their rights and needs and today we can say that they've achieved a lot.  And I am proud of all these women who in the end might not even have changed a thing for their own lives but for the lives of so many women born in the time after. Gail Collins, first female NYT editor, said last year at a lecture at Mount Holyoke College, that the women before her are the heroes, the ones who fought, but she and her peers profit from what they have done. In German we would call those women "Vorreiter".
That's always how it is, I suppose. Changes need time.
However, I call for a change in the minds of  our men. When I watch movies made in the 50's, 60's or 70's or such made today but playing in a time between 1920-1960 I see that men were true gentlemen, but nowadays you barely find men acting like gentlemen. They seem to expect from us to be emancipated and straight forward, always knowing what we want and how to get what we want. But, I have to admit (and I know I am not the only woman thinking that way): We want Gentlemen! It is not just kind to open the door for us, it is fantastic, it is not just sweet to send flowers, it is amazing, it is not just interesting to be your little girl, it's exactly what we want.
Also, why do you guys expect from us to do the first step? No. It's up to you to ask us out, to invite us on a drink. It might sound conservative, but you also expect from us things, that they would love to be fulfilled.
Every women I know loves to pamper her guy, but we want to live lovestories like we've seen in movies or heard from our grandparents.

I completely agree! I wrote a blog about this last month ('why some women are never satisfied)...I too think that the gentleman is a dying breed, but I am lucky to have found one of the rare, special and yes, slightly old fashioned one! They are out there, but sadly society seems to have little or no place for them.
Great post :-)
