Gas Drive Off

My mind is not where it should be and it was evident Sunday on my way to a football game.  I had pulled into the gas station and gave the kids money to go in and get something to drink.  I also asked them to grab me a Dr. Pepper and some Tylenol.  I am on a diet and have been limiting myself to one Dr. Pepper a day and the tylenol was for the extrememly sore muscles I had.

Well why the boys were inside, I decided to fill up and check the oil.  Normally I do not check the oil, but my husband begged me to start doing it everytime I filled up since he is deploying.  So, I thought I will be a good wife and do what my husband wants me to do.

So I started the gas pump.  Then I popped open the hood and took the dipstick out, wiped it off and inserted it again so that I could get a reading.  To my amazement it was a quart low, so I ran into the gas station to grab a quart of oil.  While I was in there, I pushed the boys to hurry up.  I grabbed the money from Caleb to pay, and the cashier told me it was over the $20 I had just given him.  So I start looking at what the boys had picked up, when he said, oh wait you paid outside.

So I run outside to put the oil in the van, still thinking we are going to be late.  I check the oil again, and satisfied with the level, close the hood jump in the van, tell everyone to buckle up and drive off.  Only then I heard the sound of the rubber hose hitting the side of the van.  Yes, you guessed it, I had never replaced the nozzle on the gas pump.  Here I am driving out of the parking lot with the nozzle still in my gas tank and the cashier chasing me down.

This is where I put the van in park, muttering some words best not repeated.  I get out in complete shocking telling the guy that I have never done this before.  He in turn tells me that it has happened before and that is why the hose broke off at the safety clasp.  I am sure that neither one of us believed the other, but if it helped so be it.

Thankfully I had paid for the gas, so he let me be on my merry way; however, my kids sure had a blast telling everyone and everything about my little escapade.
