| Niagara Falls on Christmas Day

We went to Niagara Falls today (45 minutes away) to visit with the in laws and offer them a turkey dinner that they other wise would have been without. They were very happy to see us and they kept saying how good the turkey dinner was. I suspect they are like college students and eating nothing more than fast food and T.V. Dinners in our absence. We left the food there and I'm sure they will eat it for the next three days.
We also went to the nursing home to visit with Great Grandma. The place was well decorated and frequented by many volunteers and other family members. We brought the dog with us as we always do. The one time in the past that we didn't bring him, the old people missed him. They were quick to express their disappointment. There is an old guy next door to great grandma, his name is Donald. He had a stroke a number of years ago and is unable to talk. He particularly gets excited when the dog arrives and unsuccessfully tries to pat him. I lifted the dog up and held him so that Donald could see and feel the dog with his one good hand. His smile is priceless :)
Great Grandma looks terrible. Not eating, she was gaunt, her mouth open, on oxygen and unresponsive. She looks every bit the part of 102. I don't expect her to make another month. She was originally from Kentucky but moved to Canada when she married her husband (my wife's, father's, mother). She has family on both sides of the border. In the Niagara Falls area, the locals in both countries look at the border as nothing more than a bridge and an inconvenience, of course it is an International border.

We took in the Festival of Lights tonight just as it was getting dark. This display is fantastic and draws many people with all donations going to charity(at the end of the drive you donate what ever amount you would like). The traffic jams start early with many people stopping to take photos. The falls themselves looked great with lights upon them as well. The one display I like the most is a fantastically large United States flag which can be clearly seen on the American side, It says in lights underneath "Canada Welcomes You" a very nice touch and fittingly true!! (the whole display can be seen across the Niagara river in the United States, but for a good look you need to come over and see it)
Anyway I hope you had a great day...tomorrow is Boxing Day and the daughters are already asking me to take them shopping. I will detail the events right here.
Merry Christmas....last time I can say that til 2008!
