| New Years Resolutions |

Ya know, I think I may be the only person on the planet who didn't make a New Years Resolution.
I didn't see the point of disappointing myself. lol
A lot of people say "I'm going to lose weight", and thats all well and good then, but you go back to regular life and you just don't have the time to exercise, or you simply can't resist that extra piece of cake.
Or "I'm going to spend more time with my family", but then they have to stay late at work, or their family (namely their kids) doesn't want to spend time with them.
So why make the resolution in the first place? All it does is lower your opinion of yourself, and generally make you feel like crap.
I got an e-mail from myself today. An e-mail time capsule (make your own @ futureme.org).
This fourteen year old version of me said that if I made a resolution, make one I could stick with.
Knowing myself, this would be none of them.
This version reminded me of many things, some I'd rather forget. But it made me realize just how much things have changed, and just how little people remember without being reminded.
Try to think of something you haven't for a long time, Stranger.
Your first pet.
Your first day of school.
The last time you went to a rollerskating rink.
A friend you haven't seen since 3rd grade.
Your favorite toy when you were little.
Can you remember at all?
But as a New Years present, here's a little story. Tell me what you think of it, please? Its just a scrap I wrote a while back..
Helene - Princess in the Kingdom of Sadona
Trevor - Frog Prince. [Actual name = Andrew of Travois. A merchants
apprentice, substituted for a spoiled Prince who didn't wish to be a Frog.
Which is why he looked like a toad]
She looked at the world from a whole new point of view, and laughed with
joy. "Oh, Trevor!" She exclaimed. Removing the troublesome ring, she picked
up the frog. "My poor toad!" and kissed him.
A handsome boy then stood before her. "I'm a frog, Helene, not a toad!"
The girl laughed again, green eyes sparkling. "You looked more like a toad
to me, Trevor."
"And my name is Andrew of Travois. You may call me Drew, m'lady."
"Drew then. And stop being so formal. Nothing has changed."
"Except that now that we are human again, you are a princess. What am I? A
merchants boy who went missing fifty years ago?"
Helene looked into his deep brown eyes, and noticed the gold outer rings had
not changed since his amphibian days. "You are more than that to me,
Trevo-.. Drew. You saved my life. Several times. More than that, you are my
friend." She wished to continue, but couldn't bring herself to tell him.
"You have repaid me in full, Princess. You have made me human again. And
what kind of friend am I? I turned you into a frog! I nearly got you killed.
As many times as I saved you."
"Oh, Trevor!" She said again, and reached for his hand. "You are the best
friend I've ever had."
He forgot to remind her that his name was Drew. Closer.. in a moment their
lips met. They kissed, long and slow.. until Helene pulled away.
She looked at her hands. "I'm still human!"
They both laughed at that.
They went through the rest of the day working hard; it seemed as if nothing
had changed. Except setting up camp in a swamp as a human was different than
as a frog. Once they got a fire going, a miracle on the wet surface. Helene
quickly fell asleep. Drew held her, smiling at the serenity of it all. But
he knew. She was a Princess. He was nothing. Here, in his swamp, it was
different. But when she went back to her family? It would never work. His
lips brushed her cheek, and she stirred slightly.
"I do love you, Helene."
And with that, he left.
He took on the name Trevor, Trevor of Sadona. He found work, once again as a
merchant's apprentice. His experience served him well, and he was soon a
Journeyman. "It should be enough," he told himself. But it was nothing
without Helene.
As for Helene, she went back home. Her family was glad to see her, truely,
but as before, she did not fit in. She never had, and she never would, she
knew. They did not ask many questions of her six month absence; it was not
the first time she had run away. They knew she needed her freedom, to
explore the world. And as their seventh daughter and thirteenth child, there
was no likelihood of her being in line for the throne, so they did not worry
so much about her as they might Dien, her oldest brother, or Sequina, her
oldest sister, the heir and second-in-line. She went back to the swamp
often; she thought about Trevor. She understood why he had left. But she
still wished he hadn't.. Her parents wouldn't have minded, they would have
been happy for her. Being the third youngest, she was free to marry for
love, or to not marry at all, however she chose. Many things had changed in
the fifty years he had been trapped. Her mother and father would have loved
him, of that she was certain.
Trevor's work brought him to the big cities often. His greatest fear and
biggest hope were the same. Would she be there? He understood her independent nature.
She probably ran again. He wondered if she thought about him. Sometimes he
felt her beside him. His dreams seemed so real, and she always starred in them..
One day, his work finally did bring him there. A little boy, perhaps of
eight, watched him bargain with the servants. The servants called him "the
Little Master". Perhaps he was one of Helene's brothers? He was younger than
her, so he must be Jyn or Evan. Evan was more likely; he was almost certain
Jyn was much younger.
Evan's bright green eyes were so much like his sisters. It hurt Trevors soul
to look at them, yet look at them he must. Finally the boy asked,"Sir, what
is your name?"
So polite for a prince, Trevor thought, remembering Rhine. "Trevor, my young
Prince."
The boys eyes grew wide, and he ran from the room.
Evan was the only one Helene had told about her adventures, he was the only
one she trusted. She had not told him everything, of course, but Evan was a
smart boy. He knew his sister loved Trevor.
"Helene! Helene!" He yelled for her, running into her apartments. She was
playing blocks with Ryn, who was only two. She smiled when she saw him. Evan
was so much like herself, he was all that kept her sane when she stayed
home.
"What is it, Evan?"
"Come, you must come now!"
He was so excited, she stood up and had Lilly, her servant girl, continue
the game with Ryn.
"What is it?" She asked again as he dragged her through the halls.
"A surprise,"he told her, running towards the front hall, where Trevor was
unloading his wares.
Trevor heard the echoing footsteps, the little boy's laughter. He turned,
and his eyes met hers. Helene.
Ta-da.
I had forgotten about that one.. its not bad, as mine go. lol
But what do you think?
