| LIFE IN UK AS AN ASYLUM SEEKER |
How can you frighten a man whose hunger is not only in his own cramped stomach but in the wretched bellies of his children? You cant scare him -he has known a fear beyond every other.(john steinbeck)
I arived in Liverpool and met some wonderful and friendly people in a vibrant city.I was taken to my new hostel and other friendly organization where i can meet other asylum seekers. After a week i was given a voucher where i can collect a weekly allowance to but food.I was very greateful because i didnt expect such kindness and generousity from this country.
Two weeks later, i started wondering why i should reap where i havent sow, because in my country of origin there is nothing like benefit or support, I went to the NASS office to enquire what i can do to help myself and show respect and appreciation to my host. There was only one suggestion, VOLUNTARY WORK. I was happy and registered withone of the voluntary organization in Liverpool. I was happy to do anything from gardening ,painting, shopping for the elderly, Pushing wheelchair and doing other admin work. I started having a lot of friends from the organization and started feeling like a member of the community.I wasnt isolated.
After a month in Liverpool i thought everything was over when i recieved a mail from the Home Office to attend an interview.I asked people in my hostel what the interview is about as i have attended one at the airport and Nass., they started laughing at me and explained that this is the main one to decide your fate inthis country. I was confident that everything will be fine because what i have been saying is a fact and honest truth.
The day of interview came and i went for it.
