43 Just been told I have osteoarthritis!!!!
Hello All,

I'm a relatively fit 43 yr old male, nineteen yr relationship with two children.

On Friday I was told i needed a Total Hip Replacement- within six months i need to have all the facts to make an informed decision as to what action I take.

HELP !!!!!

I'm 43 for christ sake..........i'm not financially well off and have been made redundant 4 times in the last 22months- I'm about to find out if i have a well paid Full time Career next Monday- what the **** am i going to tell them in say November (if i get the Job) " oh by the way I'm going to have both my hips replaced and i need three months off" thanks there's your P45

My weeks time table for last week looked like this;

Tuesday- Given notice of an interview that may-well change our ( Family's Lives)
Wednesday- Have a two hour & twenty Minutes Interview- very  Very good Interview and was complimented on my demeanor and articulation ( wow....And Neill you said i was Bitter & Twisted sorry Negative) Told i'd be notified on Friday.
Thursday- Decided to put plans together to get my closest family over to France in Aug  2010 for a blessing to My partner of 19yrs with a legal wedding just for the two of us on our return to the UK( Lisa Has no idea about the wedding, she thinks its  just a two week holiday in Cannes.)
Notified the decision about the Job will be on Monday Now!!
Thursday Night- Get a scare from the doctor about my little Puddleduck( Girl) was asked to leave her at home when asking for a doctors appointment, he'll visit her- symptoms of " Swine Flu" per cautionary check- Turns out she's got infections in Both her Lungs- Unusual I'm told be the doctor.
FRIDAY- Told i must have a total Hip replacement due to Osteoarthritis ; (
And i thought it was all Tares and strains  to the groin Muscle so i was told!

I have nobody to talk too about this as my partner has just shut up shop so to speak... We've not spoken to each other all day.

I just wanted to get this down on paper as such trying to make sense of of it all

I think given the incorrect first diagnosis I would get a second opinion on the matter first. You know what our health systems like...how many mistakes....Unfortunately you can't hide your medical condition from future employers..thats the way it is. Not much help really but i wish you well....I'd just like to hear some good news somewhere...

Hi, I work in the medical field and I agree, you need a second opinion, however if they have already done the X-rays and bone density tests, you can be sure that you have to have it. Three months seems a long time, Ive known 80yr olds that were walking before that. What kind of job are you looking at? will you be able to sit down mostly? A wheelchair is an option to get you back to work sooner if that is the case. And no, you do not have to inform your employers now or fyture about any medical conditions. You do have a right to privacy.

Hi New Mom,
Just seen your reply. Thanks.
X-rays ( Yes ) and bone density tests (no) I saw the X-rays of a 69year old - the surgeon Compared mine to this Lady and I was Horrified, I look disfigured from within..
We as a family have endured a sufferable six years of let downs redundancies and money issues with a few medical worries regarding the Kids, this is definately the last kick whilst i'm down. I have nobody to talk to about this at all....and I'm really finding it hard to accept I'm a prime candidate for a fast track total hip replacement( so I'm told) not only did the surgeon scare the living crap out of me he made it quiet clear there are very good surgeons' out there who can perform this operation but there are also underperforming Surgeons as well and using the NHS its like a lottery, ( wow what a thing to say at a time like that).... I need to talk to someone anyone who will listen ...I'm on anti depressant pills as a muscle relaxant but there more useful just now AS anti depressants.... I'm gutted.

Sorry I just started to ramble sorry.
Thanks for your comment.
All the best.
Stuart
