| Poem - Last Minute Fares to Sunnier Destinations
|
|
|
Just a tad bit tired of the cold...
Last minute fares to sunnier destinations
I’ll take one please
Anywhere
Not picky
Just give me sunshine and warmth
They both don’t go hand in hand
I use to think so
But in the dead of winter
That sunshine does me no good
Makes me want
So I’ve decided to take matters
Into my own hands
Sunnier destinations
It read
Take me, I said
I’m going
Where my hands won’t have visual
Cracks on the forehand
It looks older and I keep
Rubbing that special lotion
Over and over, but it just seeps
Right through into the skin
And my coat
Well that’s missing a button
Now I just take my scarf to hide
It’s a rebellion
I refuse to sew that damn thing back on
Winter is almost over
And next year
I’ll get a new one, a treat
Right now, I want that bathing suit
That hides all the extra warmth I’ve created
Food was my blanket
And I kept eating for comfort
Never mind that it tasted good
But the body does suffer
Now I just want to get on that plane
And think of all the fabulous time
I’m going to spend under the sun
Don’t care if I get burnt
Burn me up, Sun, I taunt
I need you
Sort of like a bad addiction
When you think about it
Winter is detox and come spring
I’m right back on as if nothing
Was ever different
I want sunnier destinations
To last more than 5 days in beauty
Not my fantasy island where
I have to pack up, hug and kiss farewell
I’ll take it still
As I am now grasping my ticket
Frothing for that moment when
I can open my arms wide
And worship something deemed
Blasphemous, but God will understand
Hell, 1000 years ago
I’d fit right in
Don’t need companionship
Girls to gaggle over guys with
Solitude, towel and a potent
Drink and of course the sun
The closets friends all ever need
So, I’m ready
Please carry me away
To a sunnier destination
