| Feeling sorry for yourself? Fuck that... Wakeup!! |
I have just been reading some of the far out blogs that people are posting on thoughts.com and wanted to share something with you...
I used to feel sorry for myself before I knew stuff and saw the world as it really is!!
It can be hard to know how blessed you are but remember this... travel opens the mind, broadens the horizons and gives you the opportunity to see things as they actually are... the best cure for depression...
I have been to Africa.... this is what I've seen
I have been to Asia.... this is what I've seen
And now I know how grateful I should be...?
- You know I've seen 80 year old women with hunchbacks collecting plastic bottles or selling some stale bread just to make enough for a bite to eat... They're smiling so happy for a small pitance... happy to have a full belly for the night so they can sleep without the howls of their stomach shouting them awake...
- I've seen a midget not more than 2 feet tall, his body deformed rolling around on a skateboard type contraption smiling and joking with people while he scrabbles enough to feed himself... another selling papers at the traffic light breathing car fumes all day... just happy to be working contributing doing something
- I see a man who is past 70 he lives on the road and he has no shoes... his feet are knarled and twisted but he limps on and keeps living. He smiles because his belly is full and he feels lucky >> fuck how different expectations can be...
- I have seen the shanty towns and the slums
Why do we so often feel sorry for ourselves in the western world?
Children crying because they didn't get what they wanted for dinner... oh how disconnected from reality we become is lives of luxury and excess...
I realise now that to be blessed with a brain, a body that works, no matter how imperfect, and to have the opportunity to better ourselves is all that we should ever ask for....
Stop feeding your kids shit - hot dogs, chicken nuggets, so lazy are we... we don't want the hassle - well in some places the kids are happy to fed at all - it makes me ashamed to think of how I behaved before I knew...
